Types of Hearing Aids

Some of the types of hearing aids available

Lyric:

Lyric

With Lyric, sound enters the outer ear and flows naturally toward the ear drum, so it delivers pure, beautiful sound. And it does all this for months at a time without the need for battery replacements or daily maintenance thanks to patented moisture protection mechanisms and breathable materials –all while staying completely out of sight.

Invisible in-the-Canal:

IIC aids are similar, smaller devices that fit in the bottom half of the bowl of the ear. This type of device is not easily seen when in the ear and is the least visible of in-the-ear hearing aid models.

Completely-in-Canal:

CIC hearing aids fit inside the ear and are out of sight, making them virtually undetectable. Completely-in-Canal hearing aids are suitable for many levels of hearing loss.

In-the-Canal:

ITC aids are custom-made devices, based on an impression taken of your ear canal and the surrounding area. They are slightly larger than completely-in-canal (CIC) hearing aids, but are still considered cosmetically appealing.

CROS and BICROS:

CROS and BICROS hearing aids are innovative technology, which allow a user with profound or complete hearing loss in one ear to hear sounds from the non-hearing side in the better”¯ear. ”¯The system sends sound wirelessly from”¯the”¯non-hearing side (via a CROS transmitter) to a discreet sound receiver on the”¯hearing ear.

In-The-Ear (Full Shell):

ITE or full shell hearing aids sit comfortably in the external ear and can be easily adjusted and removed. This particular hearing solution is perfect for those with mild to severe types of treatable hearing loss making it a flexible hearing loss solution.

Receiver-in-Canal:

RIC”¯hearing aids are behind-the-ear devices that place the speaker directly in the ear, often without a custom earmold. Improved sound quality can be an advantage of RIC devices, which utilize “open-fit technology.

Behind-the-Ear:

BTE hearing aids are also used for varying degrees of hearing loss.”¯The electrical components are located outside the ear, reducing the chance of damage caused by moisture and earwax, which can help the hearing aid last longer. BTEs have become smaller and lighter over the past few years and are barely noticeable behind the ear and unnoticeable when hair is covering the devices. BTEs can be fit as an “Open Fit, meaning they do not always require a custom earpiece.”¯In some cases an earmold, fit to an individual’s ear, is necessary for the best result to be obtained from a BTE hearing aid.
